What is the difference between lined and lined and interlined curtains and can that extra layer in interlined curtains help the quest for warmth as winter approaches, bearing in mind, even with double or even triple glazing there is heat loss through the glass?
Lined only curtains have the face-fabric in a design of your choice backed by lining. Whereas interlined curtains have an extra layer of a soft, sometimes lightly padded, fabric in a choice of different weights, hand-sewn between that face fabric and the lining.

The three layers of fabric not only help to keep the heat in the room and ease draughts, but give the curtains extra body, resulting in enhanced drape and hang offering a luxurious finish. The extra layer of fabric can also make a room feel a little quieter by absorbing some of the sound. Interlined curtains won’t make a room soundproof, but they will reduce sound in cities or noisy environments.
Lined and interlined curtains are particularly effective in country and period homes, often with single glazed windows, where an appropriately lavish finish is desired.
As lined and interlined curtains are hand-made by skilled artisans, there is a price premium compared with lined-only curtains, which are generally machine-made, but we would suggest this is a justified outlay when considering the luxurious finish, the improved insulation, reduction in draughts and outside noise.
Apart from all of this, lined and interlined curtains produced in-house by Lesley Duro and her expert team at Cotswold Curtains and Interiors are wonderful to behold!
